The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) waited 18 days on a recall that contained 21.7 million pounds of tained ground beef, the second largest beef recall in US history. The USDA justified their delay, stating that they needed to conduct more sophisticated tests, such as the Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis that takes seven days to conduct, to confirm the conmintation. The tainted meat, frozen patties, were first acknowledged as so on Sept. 7 with a E. coli bacteria, but was not recalled until Sept. 25.According the USDA, its policy states that it does not seek a recall until a second confirmation has been made. Should USDA change its policies?

I think that the USDA should let the public know that the meat could possibly be contaminated and that they are testing it a second time. At the same time they can further test the meat to make sure it is actually contaminated. If they don't inform people right away some could become ill from eating the meat. Its better to be careful than wait to be sure that it is actually contaminated.
If they recalled their beef too early think of all the cows whose lives were wasted :(.
I THINK THAT THE USDA SHOULD CHANGE THEIR POLICIES. NATALIE'S PROPOSAL IS A VERY REASONABLE ONE. ALERT THE PUBLIC OF THE DANGER, BUT HOLD OFF ON THE RECALL UNTIL FURTHER TESTING IS PERFORMED. ALSO, USDA SHOULD FACTOR IN THE DEGREE OF THE CONTAINMENTS IN THE FOOD. IF IT’S A DEADLY STRAND OF SOME DISEASE THEN I WOULD DEFINITELY WANT TO BE INFORMED OF THE POSSIBLE CONTAMINATION.
I don't know why that is all in capital letters. I just copy and pasted onto mirosoft word to check my spell, and when I pasted it back it changed to all captial letters, so I'm not mad or trying to shout.
