Obama wins in South Carolina

Obama won in South Carolina today, Clinton was second, and Edwards was third. Turnout broke records for this primary. A possible factor in Obama's victory was race. About half the voters were black, and four out of five of them were for Obama. The "black candidate" is a label that might hurt him outside the South. The final percentages were Obama-55%, Clinton-27%, and Edwards-18%. Exit polls also showed economy was the most imporant issue in the race.

So when we learned about why there was a lack of voter turnout earlier in the year, one of the reasons unless I am mistaken was a lack of real knowledge/understanding and therefore one's vote was not really well thought out. This is good, if more people are turning up to vote, but I must ask are these educated votes? Or are people voting purely to have a Female president, a Black president, or to make sure they have neither of the two and maintain the White male? Some of these new votes I know are well thought out, but it would be a shame if others aren't!
