Barry Obama
According to Newsweek, for much of his life, the man we know as Barack Obama was called by the nickname Barry. Oh, what a scandal! It was not until he started attending Columbia University that he stopped going by the nickname Barry and began to be called by his formal African name. In my opinion, the press has just run out of things to talk about when it comes to the primaries. Newsweek took an unsignificant, but somewhat interesting fact about Obama, and turned it into the front page story. But as it turns out, much of the story wasnt about the nickname, but simly delved into Obama's past and his personal life, which i feel has no place in American Politics. Do you think that this was a front-page worthy story? In my opinion, there are more important things to report on that the fact that Obama liked to eat "chicken satay, traditional fried rice and meatballs the size of tennis balls."

I think that the press clearly has run out of things to write about. Because the press has been put under scrutiny for being too nice to Obama, it probably feels the need to target him. So, it's understandable why they would make a bigger story of something than it really is, but it is still completely rediculous to bring his name and irrelevant past life experiences into the picture.
seriously, not many good news stories out there
I agree with Emma, I think the press has run out of things to say because there have been no major primaries recently. They're all waiting until the Pennsylvania primary on April 22, but until then they're just trying to fill the time with some "juicy" gossip about the candidates, which really isn't all that juicy or interesting, and doesn't really have much to do with the qualifications of the candidates.
This is exactly what I have an issue with. Now with the media running out of things to say, I've come to realize that everybody can do nothing but identity vote..."His middle name is Hussein! Well then clearly he isn't a good potential candidate."
I don't get why there's a big uproar with this article. It seems that, although this topic seems really insignificant, it reflects a deeper personal trait of Obama.
Okay, I only read part of the article from Newsweek, but it seems to be saying that Obama, after years of trying to fit into the American dream society, decided to accept his background.
"The identity quest, which began before he became Barack and continued after, put him on a trajectory into a black America he had never really known as a child in Hawaii and abroad. In the end, he would come to see and accept that he was in an almost unique position as an American—someone who had been part of both the white and the black American "families," able to view the secret doubts and fears and dreams of both, and to understand them." -When Barry Became Barack, Newsweek.
