Operation Chaos

This is relatively old news, but i was reading about the election, and found something that led me to beleive that republicans might not be as nice as we think they are. Rush Limbaugh, a conservative talk show host, is publicizing his scheme to get John McCain elected in the general election. He believes that Barack Obama is by far the stronger candidate, and would therefore present the greatest obstacle to McCain. Now that the Republican nomination has been secured by McCain, Limbaugh is urging people in states with open primaries to vote as a democrat, and cast their vote for Hillary Clinton. Limbaugh believes that if enough Republicans vote for Clinton, she can triumph over Obama, and ultimately lose to McCain, ushering in four more years under a Republican President. What are your opinions? Is this immoral or wrong? Is Limbaugh wrongfully manipulating Democracy in America, or is he just advocating strategic voting? This is good news for Obama supporters though, because it shows that he is seen as the stronger candidate by many people outside of the Democratic party.

I think that the way you view this situation completely depends on who you vote for. If you support Obama, you could claim that Limbaugh is ruining democracy by trying to intimidate other Republicans into voting for Hillary. However, if you are a republican, you would most likely consider this strategic voting. But, if this were a Democratic politician trying to enforce this strategic voting to elect a democratic president, then Obama supporters and Republicans would think otherwise.

I think that this is a clever strategy. While I do not personally support it because I want Obama to win the Democratic nomination, I think that in an election, all types of strategy are fair game. I'm sure that Obama's campaign and Clinton's campaign have strategies of their own. I think that in the U.S., politics isn't about playing nice, its about winning/electing the candidate YOU want into office, by using any means possible.

Well, I hope you're being sarcastic when you said you believe that republicans might not be as nice as we think they are. I've seen a lot of politics, and all republicans do is attack people, whether it be democrats or fellow republicans. Nevertheless, what Limbaugh is doing is not OK. Obviously it is good strategy for winning an election, but so is secretly making false allegations about the opposing candidate. THAT IS WRONG. We all know about Limbaugh's past and his hatred for democrats. This is just another stupid stunt. People should vote for the candidate they like best, end of story.
