Schwarzeneggar vetoes gay marriage

As the debate over gay marriage rages on throughout the country, the California governor, once again, vetoed a bill for gay marriage. His reasons were that voters and the California Supreme Court should decide the issue, instead of lawmakers. The bill would have defined marriage as a union between two people, not just a man and a woman. Arnold says that he will continue to veto bills involving the issue of gay marriage. Meanwhile, the California Supreme Court will rule on whether the state's voter-approved ban on gay marriage violates the Constitution.

I think that Arnold is right in vetoing this bill because gay marriage is such a hot-button issue to so many people. For him to please gay marriage advocates would also be to upset opponents of gay marriage. So, the issue should be left to the voters of California. What irritates me about what our governor did is that he says Californians "should not be discriminated against based upon their sexual orientation," even though he just vetoed a bill that would have approved gay marriage. I don't know about you, but I hate hypocritical politicians.

P.S.: VOTE FOR RYAN LANDIS!

Dont vote for ryan, he is way too extreme. Instead, progress, not regress, by voting CYNTHIA LEE.

I agree with Paul...The governor's comment was very hypocrytical and i also hate hypocrytical politicians. Gay marriage is a very controversal issue and leaving it up to California voters is teh best policy because the voters are the people and it is these people that have to abide by the laws that are passed. I think that it is important for the people to decide this hot issue...

First off, I agree with Paul and you should vote for me :). This extreme stuff is becoming over exaggerated, Will. But besides that, I don't know if that is hypocritical. Politicians cannot always follow their own personal beliefs if they feel it is against the population they represent. So the terminator not passing the law is not the worst thing because it is not like he can make it so the law can never come into action. He is making sure that this one controversial issue does not take him out of office in the future, a good political move on his part.

I agree with Ryan. Just because Schwarzenegger vetoes gay marriage doesn't mean he has any biasness against gays. He simply cannot choose one side over the other without upsetting one of the groups. By allowing the Californian voters to pick he is taking a step back away from this controversial issue.

It really annoys me how many politicians would rather play hot potato with issues that are very important to society, rather than dealing with it head on. I feel avoiding the important issues complete cowards.

Paul Slack- Pick a side. First you say you agree with Arnold's decision, but then you call him a hypocritical politician for making the decision? Don't worry though your pefromance vs. South City redeems you. I agree with Garrick's idea that politicians should stop avoiding important social issues by playing hot potato with them.

Do the right thing... vote Reinertson

marc, i agree with you about voting for melissa! :-D but i completely support arnold's "hot potato"ing the issue. i mean hello, we are california, not some southern republican conservative state. there are way too many different opinions here to, i think, ever make a definite decision. uhh SF = center of national gay pride...and then there are those other cities that are a bit more conservative. CA is one of the most melting pot-ish states.

SNAPS FOR SCHWARZ!

(totally watched "legally blonde: the musical" today!)
