Helping Afghanistan

The Farm Euro Insurance is now preparing for the Christmas season packing boxes full of jackets, sweatshirts and socks. These boxes are intended to be shipped off to Afghanistan to be donated to children in need.

Apparently the agency is doing this out of inspiration from one of their agents now in Afghanistan, Captain Brian Pinson. Pinson has kept in touch with the agents back home and he told them that all he wanted for Christmas was for donations to be sent to the children of Afghanistan. He reports to them that there is nothing there and that the kids are not prepared for the winter to come.

I am glad to see the people of our country doing something that is almost completely, objectively moral. I am proud to be of a nation that can help others in need.

I think its heart-warming to see that people in our country can show compassion for those in other nations; especially a nation that doesnt have the best reputation from our country's point of veiw. There are so many humanity issues in the world, it is good to see that some people are trying to do their part to make the world a better place for others.

i saw something like this on the news the other day where many people were saying that instead of giving family and friends christmas presents this year, they are going to be donating! I think it is a great idea because honestly, how much more clothes do we need when there are sooo many other ppl in other countries who dont have anything. I'm glad we are realizing that there are ppl in need that we need to be helping!!!

Has anyone ever pondered the idea of buying their way into heaven (if you believe in it)? For some reason I feel a lot of acts are not done from the heart but rather just for tax write offs and to make themselves feel better. Not to be a rune the goodness of some people, but what about the people in India who needs cloths. Why didn't the guy wish for them to. I do not know but if you give, give cause you want to not because you feel obligated to or because you think it will help you in your future. It pretty disgusting when people do it! But hey if you are a nice person and give just to give by all means do it and the best of luck.

I think its great that people are trying to help others in need, especially for the upcoming holiday season. Thanks for this post on helping others Matt, I think people need to get more involved in helping others not just during the holidays but all year round too. If anyone is interested in bringing a smile to a impoverished child's face this Christmas you can go to http://www.samaritanspurse.org/
what you do is create a shoe box filled with small toys, pencils, toothbrushes etc. and it will be sent to a child in a different country. Or if you want to help someone yearlong you can sponsor a child at http://www.worldvision.org/
if you don't want to make a yearlong commitment you can just donate. Theres so many different ways to help others locally too, in general I think students need to be more active in the community by volunteering more.

I see where you are coming from Landis. I am big on the whole "do things for the right reason". That being said, I think that it is wise to look at everything with scrutiny, but be careful; you don't want to accuse the innocent. I hope that they are giving out of real care, but if not, at least people are being helped for the holidays
