U.S. Evacuates Embassy in Serbia

Last Sunday, Kosovo gained independence from Serbia. Ever since, there has been hostility between the two nations. Serbs have rioted across the country with their anger directed towards the United States and all other countries who have recognized Kosovo as an indendent nation. On Friday, the United States evacuated their embassy in Belgrade, Serbia. Protesters threw rocks and shattered windows, and set fires near the embassy. The United States has warned Serbia that it has to take care of the embassy, and that it is not the United States' fault if anything goes wrong. Serbs continue to protest across the country and will not recognize Kosovo as a country.

With these attacks heightening, will the United States regret recognizing Kosovo as an independent nation? Why or why not? What do you think should be done to stop the violence in Serbia?

I don't think that the United States will regret recognizing Kosovo. We've had a history of standing up and defending countries who want their independence, such as, Israel. There some similarities between these two nations. I don't think that the United States regrets acknowledging Israel’s independence, so why would it regret recognizing Kosovo's independence. Also, I do believe that it is extremely early to determine if this was a bad move. Unless, something extreme happens to Americans a result of our recognition of this new nation, I think that these riots and violent acts towards the US embassy will not hinder America's support of Kosovo. In regards to how to curb the hostility, there’s always political pressure.

What are Obama and Clinton's stance on this? I sincerely do not know but what happens if we have to fight? Seems to me that everyone wants to help the underdog but not fight the fight. I support the the U.S. move, but what happens if we just move on to fight another war the second we draw out or the Middle East? How will all the Demo plans work then?

I am asking questions I do not know the answers to so please reply with a nice tone!
