Bruce Springsteen Endorses Obama

Rock star Bruce Springsteen endorsed Democratic Sen. Barack Obama for president Wednesday, saying "he speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years."

In a letter addressed to friends and fans posted his Web site, Springsteen said he believes Obama is the best candidate to undo "the terrible damage done over the past eight years."

"He has the depth, the reflectiveness, and the resilience to be our next president," the letter said. "He speaks to the America I've envisioned in my music for the past 35 years, a generous nation with a citizenry willing to tackle nuanced and complex problems, a country that's interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit. A place where '...nobody crowds you, and nobody goes it alone.' "

Do such celebrities make a difference in elections such as this one? Do celebrities use the elections to further there own careers and put themselves in the spotlight?

Well a celebrity endorsement, in all honesty, doesn't do much, but it sure is flattering. And of course, this is the Boss.

I think celebrity endorsement does do some good, at least for public image. Probably not much with the delegate votes, but let's face it. The American people look up to American celebrities. The people, the media, are all obsessed with them. So when a celebrity endorses a certain candidate, it earns that candidate more publicity. All the celebrity's fans will probably take another look and it will boost the image of Obama.

I think it is good for anyone and everyone to spread their political beliefs becuase it will at least get people thinking about politics. If we can get enough people thinking about politics in America, perhaps we can get more that half of the population to vote. I think that it is good that celebrities pay attention and speak their voice about political issues becuase it has the possibility of inspiring other americans to vote.

Im not sure how much this is going to help Obama. Celebrities are looked up to, but is anyone going to vote a certain way because of an older rockstar? I mean he is legandary, but as a youth (I myself know of him and like his muic) Im not sure how bog of an impact that is going to have. This move could also be damaging to his carrer. He can kiss Clinton and Republican fans goodbye after that move.

Unfortunately celebrities do use endorsements as a way of pulling the spotlight towards themselves. I would like to think that most people think for themselves, and don't simply obey their idol/favorite celebrity. However, like Farrah said, it helps public image.

There could be a few guaranteed votes from that. Such as... groupies...
