Can McCain be Taken Seriously

John McCain at times seems as though his old age has got the best of him while speaking to the media. "Grandpa McCain" as I call him, made a mistake recently about not knowing the difference between Sunnis and Shiites. McCain claims to be the best candidate for the Presidency and for foreign affairs but that seems to be the case. McCain also made the mistake of calling some people of Iran Al Queda when there wasn't any there. I can see why there is not much media covering McCain because of the tight Democratic nominee race but that shouldn't be a reason to dismiss McCain's faults so quickly. He is going to be running for President. Is McCain's old age a factor going into the Presidential election? Can McCain be trusted as President even with the mistakes being made in his so called "best field" of foreign affairs?

Like Pat said the media has been focusing on the Democratic side of the election because it is more exciting. McCain is going to be the Republican nominee, so the media has turned the focus to the Democrats. However, this allows McCain to slip by making mistakes while not necessarily make or break, they are no less serious than some of the trivial "mistakes" the media has been focusing on the Democratic candidates.

I don't really trust mccain as president. He is a republican after all.

But seriously he is way too old, and shell shocked. Plus he's a war mongerer. Just an all around bad combination.

True, his mom is like rounding 100, but that means nothing for McCain. What about that kind of endurance that you need to travel? I'm sure this whole position as President of the United States is pretty stressful. He wouldn't be able to handle it.

Yes, he was a POW, but that doesn't mean his believes and standards are up to date. He has a lifetime of experience, yes, but he grew up in the 40's! That's such a different time! He has been embedded with standards of the 1940's and 50's. He would never vote like the American youth because he didn't grow up close enough with the American youth! Most of us would be very unhappy with his decisions because they would be not even close to ours.

I think that while right now, we arent seeing the media attack McCain much, we will be seing a lot of that in the future. Once a democratic candidate is selected, we will start to hear about every single mistake McCain makes. Right now the media is just focusing on the democratic primary because that is what sells news. Once we get closer to the general election, we will start to hear all of McCain's shortcomings, like his age.

Well, if he's making a lot of mistakes now, he'll probably keep going when the media actually focuses on him in the general election.

I definitely agree with Genevieve though. While his age itself might not be a deciding factor, the resulting fact that he grew up with a different set of ideals and standards means that he'll have different priorities from the majority, especially the youth, of America.
