A Cartoon A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

Although I haven't been following the political campaign race as intently as I should be, I do know enough to see what is being made fun of here. I think it's wrong to make fun of Hillary because she got emotional during the campaign race. I bet campaigning for anything would certainly make even the biggest men cry, as it is definitely a nerve wracking ordeal (As we saw in "Journeys with George" last semester) . All in all, I think that her crying just makes it seem like she's closer to us than the other candidates (which could be a good or bad thing).

While I haven't been following the primaries particularly closely either, I have heard anti-Hillary sentiments from people. It seems like a lot of people simply dislike and/or make fun of her because she seems to be so fake. Things like an allegedly fake accent make it hard to relate to her. The emotional bit can be seen as another plan to get voters to sympathize with her, or it could be a real emotional display. Either way, if people can't relate to her, I doubt they'll vote for her.

Points have been made that Hilliary played the gender card and that if any other of the candidates, who are male, had cried, it would seem like they were just plain bitter. But I don't know... Hillary really seemed to be genuine in this emotional display and that she really just wanted to change this country.

There's an interesting opinion piece on the New York Times that discusses this event.

Watching everyone turn a 8% difference in the Iowa caucuses (one delegate less than Obama!) to a sign that Hillary was all but dead should be enough to make anyone cry. Besides, I'm sure that most of us can't realize how much some people really hate Hillary; we live in one of the bluest areas in the country, and even here you hear a lot of anti-Clinton (not just Hillary) sentiment. I can only wonder what it is like in a place like South Carolina...

her extravagant display of waterworks irritated me. obviousl, it was all for show. first she was criticized for being too cold and stiff, so, her campaign team told her to soften up and tear up some. so she falsely cried to get a bit more of sympathy out of the nation. i think its pathetic and uncalled for. hillary just looks weak with the tears and pathetic bc she has to resort to something so desperate as tears. she is fake and defiitely does not deserve to be the first female president of the united states...

I think that the question isn't whether or not she was genuine, but rather how people perceive her after this display. After being known as the "Snow Queen" it's kind of hard to break that image without seeming insincere. America has become very cynical of its politicians so Hilary shouldn't be expecting too much compassion after one display of emotion. Personally, I think it was actually one of the only moments Hilary has been true, but that doesn't really change my opinion of her. If this whole thing wasn't just a political move she should be okay with people keeping their opinions.

Maybe terrorists will stop attacking when they see Hillary crying about it.

Maybe it was a political move, maybe it wasn't, but who will ever know? Once she won New Hampshire, people were skeptical that her shedding a tear got her the win. However, if it was an honest emotion released, then I think she made a good move showing she's only a human being. Anyways, whether or not it was a political move, whether or not she really meant it, it gave her a lot of media attention. And, I think any media attention (except really bad attention) is good.
