Gasoline

Does anyone remember a time when gas was under 2 dollars? Has anyone noticed that gasoline prices have been steadily increasing over the past couple of days? I was getting gas and a few days later the same gas station had gas priced at 2 or 3 cents higher. According to CNN gas prices has once again hit another "all-time high."

Some of the numbers that they talked about were:
  • In one day the national gas price went up by .8 cents
  • Gases prices have rose 19.9% since last year
  • California has the most expensive gas price at 3.737 dollars a gallon, while New Jersey is the only state to see prices below 3.10 a gallon
But what does this all mean besides the fact people will have to start selling their organs in order to pay for these high prices? I think that with gas prices at an all time there is a much larger incentive for scientific companies to think of other sources of energy. This is especially true for large corporations as diesel prices have gone up by a lot with in the last couple of months. These larger corporations, as pointed out by the article, use diesel for their large trucks so they will want to find a cheaper way to transport things. This also hopefully will sway more people to either carpool or take public transportation which will help the environment. I certainly don't see the gas prices decreasing any time soon...

I agree. Gas prices are only going to rise as gas becomes more and more scarce. Ultimately, people are going to be forced to carpool/take public transportation because gas will be just too expensive for everybody to have their own car.

Everyday, on the way to school, I pass by a Chevron station. Yesterday I saw the cheapest gasoline, regular, at $3.95. GOOD LORD. But honestly, is it really going to encourage people to carpool? And even if we did, what would that do to gas prices?

In all seriousness, I think everyone's complaining about gas prices is just proof that we need to ween ourselves off of oil and find alternative sources of energy....fast!

There's no way that gas prices will go down, only the hope that they might not increase so fast. If anyone goes to San Jose regularly, I hear their gas prices are a little more reasonable than ours anyway. If anyone else watched "Who Killed the Electric Car", it seems like we already have some alternatives to high gas prices, they were simply squashed by oil companies, consumers, and manufacturers before they could have any real effect. Personally, I'd love to have a truly electric car. Hybrid's like the Prius are great, but going at any real speed ends up using mostly gas anyway. The main problem with electric cars seems to be that they can only go "x" number of miles before you have to recharge the batteries, and that can often take hours. They would still be great for commuting though. And Hydrogen or Natural Gas cars seem reasonable as well.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if every oil country was just like, "have as much as you want." Yes, probably not that good long term, but would it allow for more innovation at a cheaper price for companies to discover a new way to produce alternate sources of energy.

As gas prices keep increasing people are going to have to find different ways of transportation. Everyone is going to have to suck it up until scientist find an alternative to gasoline. Lets just hope and pray that will be soon.

Well, for what it's worth, I heard last week that there were hearings in congress in which the top big oil companies had to explain/defend their 40 billion dollar profits. So...I don't know if this means anything but I thought it was interesting because the congress finally had enough. But I haven't heard any news since, but hopefully it's still being carried out.

Gas prices arent going to go down and they will just keep on going up. We are going to have to find some other source of transportation. Gas prices though are relatively higher here then in other places though. If you go to the south bay its like 25 cents cheaper and other parts of the country have it even cheaper.
